Cream Waves Goodbye

We’re spotlighting Eric Clapton today on The Drive’s Thursday Artist Portrait and played a side from his groundbreaking late 60’s power trio, Cream on our Overnight Album Side this morning.

By 1969, Cream was already disbanding after a final tour and farewell album with the appropriate title of “Goodbye”. In their relatively short time together, Clapton and Cream had a huge influence on rock with their long, improvised jams and Eric’s extended soloing. Just as The Beatles had changed music several times, Cream spawned a slew of heavy, blues based bands that celebrated the art of the long jam complete with Ginger Baker inspired drum solos.

We listened to an entirely live side from “Goodbye” split between two tracks, “I’m So Glad” and “Politician”.
