David Bowie=Ziggy Stardust

We featured David Bowie this week on The Drive and also on here on our Overnight Album Side. This time we selected his 1972 record, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars.

There’s a story here, at least loosely about a gender bender rock star from another planet…That’s Ziggy, a role embraced for awhile by Bowie, both on album and in his live performances. Bowie’s androgynous image was somewhat shocking for the early Seventies and by the time we were all getting used to it, Bowie traded it for a different persona. The songs on Ziggy Stardust are a strong collection, well played by a good band led by guitarist Mick Ronson. We tracked Side 1 this time and heard “Moonage Daydream” and “Starman”.
