Dave Grohl sends "huge, heartfelt thank you" to Save Our Stage supporters

Dave Grohl has shared a “huge, heartfelt thank you” to those who supported the Save Our Stages Act, a measure included in the COVID-19 stimulus package that provides funding to independent performance venues amid the pandemic.

“The preservation of America’s smaller, independent venues is not only crucial to the millions of concert goers whose lives are bettered by experiencing their favorite artists in the flesh, but to the future of music itself,” the Foo Fighters frontman says in a statement. “It gives the next generation of young musicians a place to cut their teeth, hone their craft, and grow into the voices of tomorrow.”

Foo Fighters were among the many bands whose 2020 tour plans were altered by the pandemic. The group ended up canceling their 25th anniversary tour, along with a giant July 4 blowout concert outside Washington, D.C.

“The absence of live music this year has left us all longing for that communal feeling of connection, one that is best felt when joined in a song,” Grohl now writes. “The Save Our Stages Act brings us one step closer to sharing that feeling again, one that I hope we can all experience again very soon.”

“Everyday we’re one step closer,” he adds.

Earlier this year, Grohl wrote an op-ed in The Atlantic about the importance of live music. Foo Fighters also performed during a virtual music festival in support of the National Independent Venue Association, or NIVA.
