Michael McDonald turns 69 on February 12, and the one-time Doobie Brothers singer/keyboardist is planning to celebrate his birthday with a special virtual concert event that evening dubbed “Home Alone 2: Birthday Bash: A Party of One.”
As its name suggests, the event is the second in a series of livestream concerts McDonald has been playing at his home, the first being a show that was held in September 2020.
McDonald has posted a video message about the bash on his official YouTube channel that he begins by playing the riff from The Beatles‘ 1968 classic “Birthday.” He goes on to explain, “I’ll be performing songs from my solo career, from The Doobies and some special cover tunes to celebrate yet another trip around the sun, and Valentine’s Day while we’re at it.”
The “Merchandise Bundle” also includes an autographed birthday bash card, a ceramic mug featuring a vintage photo of Michael and a pair of “Takin’ It to the Streets” socks.
The “All Access Bundle” includes the three aforementioned merch items, plus access to a VIP afterparty featuring more songs and a Q&A with McDonald.
In November, McDonald was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Doobie Brothers, and he’s slated to rejoin the band this year for its 50th anniversary tour, which was postponed from 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The trek currently is scheduled to kick off July 17 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
