Meals on Wheels Chicago

Meals on Wheels Chicago is celebrating 35 years of service and the launch of Nourish Chicago! For 35 years, Meals on Wheels Chicago has provided home-delivered meals to Chicago seniors and individuals with disabilities, thereby improving quality of life and maximizing independence. Meals on Wheels Chicago envisions a community in which all basic needs are met and barriers to achieving independence are eliminated. Nourish Chicago furthers Meals on Wheels Chicago’s services and reach by providing nutritious, reliable food and resources for Chicago’s senior citizens once a month. 08/21/22

Diveheart

When you think of scuba diving, what comes to mind? The ocean? Colorful, exotic fish and wildlife? What about therapy? Diveheart is a non-profit dedicated to helping those with physical and cognitive disabilities through scuba diving and scuba therapy. The underwater world allows everyone, regardless of their disabilities, to explore and embrace adventure, without the gravitational restraints they may have on land.

Friends of The Chicago River

Since 1979, Friends has been working to improve the health of the Chicago River system for the benefit of people, plants and animals; and by doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, and easily accessible corridor of open space in the Chicago region. The organization’s work also includes education and outreach programs that inform and inspire people to help revitalize the Chicago River. As a result, the Chicago River is becoming a haven for wildlife and a treasured community resource. With us this morning to talk more about Friends of the Chicago River and the work they are doing for the River, wildlife, and people of Chicago is Margaret Frisbie, the Executive Director of Friends of the Chicago River.

Bristol Renaissance Faire

Starting July 9th through September 5th, the Bristol Renaissance Faire will be transporting visitors every weekend to 1574.The Faire boasts a beautiful 30-acre site with open-air stages featuring Swordfighters, Minstrels and Jesters. Guests will enjoy 16th Century games, rides, arts, crafts, food, music and one-of-a-kind encounters with a spectacular cast of characters. BBQ For The Troops

For the 9th consecutive year, the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA) have partnered with the United Service Organizations, (USO) of Illinois, to host “Barbecue for the Troops” community fundraising events. CATA dealers have rallied their communities to help raise nearly $950,000 to support USO Illinois programs and services for local military and their families, and their goal is to hit $1,000,000 this year. On Saturday July 16th, you can show your support by visiting participating car dealers and celebrate USO’s BBQ For the Troops. Advocates For Adolescent Mothers

Becoming a parent is a life changing moment for anyone, but particularly when you’re still a kid yourself. Teens who become pregnant face more than the struggle of early parenthood, they’re threatened with poverty, homelessness, and a derailment of educational and professional success. Advocates for Adolescent Mothers founder Lillian Harris was a teen mother herself, and she joins us this morning to talk more about the organization and her efforts to help young moms.
